Robert N. Charman, the son of the late Ken and Pearl (née Walker) Charman, was raised as the only boy in a family of six. The family initially lived in the east end of the City of Moncton but, like many others, moved to the outskirts of the city, Lewisville area, when Bob was six.

Bob graduated from Moncton High School and attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, where he received a bachelor’s degree and his law degree. He was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar in January of 1982.

He continues to reside in the Moncton area with his wife Lucille and daughter Rebecca.
